My intrest in the Moskop Family History

I have been researching the Moskop/Moskopps for about 10 years now. I thought I would do a blog to share my research for those cousins who are interested. I have traced the Moskops back to Germany so I have listed pictures and discriptions of the places in Germany where they have come from. Some day I hope to go visit Germany and see these places for myself.

The farthest I have been able to trace back on my direct line is my 5th great grandfather Joanni Moskopp born about 1740 in Kaerlich, Rheinland, Preussen (Germany). His son and Grandson were also born there. His grandson Conradus Moskopp came to the USA in 1852 on a ship called Florida. He lived in Illinois. He died there in Madonnaville, Monroe co Ill. in 1854.

Charles son oh Johann "John" Moskop was born in Rubennach, Kolbenz, Germany in 1849. He is listed as infant on the ship manifest. He
resided in Ill. and Arkansas. On the 1880 census he lived in Mitchie, Monroe co. Illinois and on the 1910 census he was in Randolph co ARK.

In 1889 Charles had a son Walter Moskop born in Ark. whom had a son Jack Moskop in 1919 in Marked Tree Ark. Jack is my grandfather. He and his family including some brother
and sisters and their family moved to Phonix AZ and raised there familys in AZ

Kobern-Gondorf

Kobern-Gondorf is a municipality in the district of Mayen-Koblenz in Rhineland-Palatinate, western Germany.

The municipality comprises the towns Kobern, Gondorf and Dreckenach. Kobern Gondorf (about 17 km from Koblenz away) is an ancient wine village with about 3,000 inhabitants. For a turbulent past of this small town Moselstrasse document the famous Matthias Chapel, the ancestral castle of the Prince von der Leyen, Liebieg the castle, the medieval market with Tatzelwurmbrunnen, the oldest half-timbered house in Germany and Abteihof of St. Mary (built 1320/21). In addition to the cultural opportunities the city offers a lot of leisure activities such as miniature golf, boat trips on the Moselle, as well as biking and hiking trails.

Here is a family that is from this town:

Koblenz-Arenberg

Koblenz-Arenberg (also spelled as Aremberg or Ahremberg) is a historic duchy located in modern Germany. First mentioned in the 12th century, it was named after the village Aremberg in the modern district of Ahrweiler, in the Rhineland-Palatinate. The territorial possessions of the dukes of Arenberg varied through the ages. Around 1789 the duchy was located in the Eifel region on the west side of the Rhine, and contained amongst others Aremberg, Schleiden and Kerpen. However, although the Duchy itself was in Germany, from the 15th century on, the principal lands of the Dukes of Arenberg have been in modern day Belgium.
Earliest Moskopp found here was 1742

After Mainz and Ludwigshafen am Rhein, it is the third largest city in Rhineland-Palatinate, with a population of c. 106,000 (2006). Koblenz lies in the Rhineland, 92 kilometers (57 miles) southeast of Cologne by rail.

The Moskops or Moskopps are from the Rhineland region of Germany
Mostly from the City Koblenz and surrounding towns and villages.
Rhineland-Palatinate (German: Rheinland-Pfalz) is one of the 16 federal states of Germany. It has an area of 19,846 square kilometres (7,663 sq mi) and about four million inhabitants. The capital is Mainz.
The federal state of Rhineland-Palatinate was established on 30 August 1946.(2nd Map shows the district with in Germany) It was formed from the northern part of the French Occupation Zone, which included parts of Bavaria (the Rhenish Palatinate), the southern parts of the Prussian Rhine Province (including the District of Birkenfeld which formerly belonged to Oldenburg), parts of the Prussian Province of Nassau (see Hesse-Nassau), and parts of Hesse-Darmstadt (Rhinehessen on the western banks of the Rhine); the new state was legally confirmed by referendum on 18 May 1947.
